More About Maruti Suzuki Swift DZire

The 2015 Maruti Suzuki Swift DZire embodies a host of exterior updates. Most of the changes have been made to the front facet and a few additional features have been equipped in the cabin, making the compact sedan more feature rich. Under the skin, the new DZire is more efficient, thanks to the mechanical revisions. The price of Maruti Swift DZire in India begins at Rs 5.07 lac (ex-showroom price, Delhi), which is competitive enough juxtaposed to its rivals. The compact sedan is visually more appealing as compared to its forerunner. That said, cosmetic revamps include a reworked bumper on the front, larger air dams and tweaked fog lamp inserts with L-shaped aluminium trim placed on its sides. One of the other noticeable revivifications made to the front facet is the slightly-modified head lights with black inserts. Also, the front grille has been revised completely. The honeycomb base of the radiator grille is adorned by the thick V-shaped chrome bar. Besides these exterior changes, newly-designed alloy wheel (restricted to the higher trims) and redesigned wheel covers (available on the base trims) are also put on offer. Additional interior equipment inherited from the Swift hatchback facelift include electric folding wing mirrors, push-button start, smart key access, new upholstery, and new audio system with six-speakers and Bluetooth connectivity. Petrol engine has also been revised to return enhanced fuel economy, though it churns out insignificantly low power. Reduced friction and modified ECU result in increased fuel economy of the diesel motor; however, power output remains intact. The price of Maruti Swift DZire ranges from Rs. 5.07 lac to Rs 7.81 lac (ex-showroom price, Delhi).
A few additional features inside the cabin, like push-button start, smart key access, new upholstery, and new sound system with six speakers and Bluetooth connectivity sum up the tweaks made to the interiors. Dual-tone colour scheme, featuring black and beige shades, cloth-accent door trim on the front and rear doors, wooden print door trim, and inside chrome door handles are some of the styling cues that make the cabin look upmarket. The wooden-printed dashboard, wooden-grain panels across the instrument panel to the door and chrome finishing in the cabin together give a plush look to the cabin. The front door trim pocket, glove box, folding assistant grip for co-passenger/rear passengers, sun visors for the driver and co-passenger, ticket holder, passenger-side vanity mirror and remote fuel opener are some of the basic utility features embedded in the cabin. Other than these, new DZire gets a string of advanced features aboard, such as front (driver/co-driver) electric power windows, power window lock, rear door power window, driver seat power window auto switch, central door lock, remote keyless entry, remote back door opener and electromagnetic backdoor operation (exclusive to the high end trim). The driver’s seat comes with height adjuster, while seat back pocket is provided on the co-driver and driver seats. The front and rear seat head restraints can be adjusted. The rear seat is equipped with a foldable centre arm rest. Automatic air conditioner is bestowed only on the higher variants of the model series, while rest of the trims feature manual air conditioner. Tiltable power steering with double horn, and mounted audio and calling controls have also been incorporated for the ease of driver. From the entertainment segment, a new audio system with six speakers, Bluetooth, radio, CD and USB has been installed. The instrument panel and console features engine push start/stop, speedometer, seat belt reminder for the driver’s seat, light-on reminder buzzer, door closure warning lamp, digital clock, instantaneous fuel consumption/ average, outside temperature display, odometer, front and rear accessory socket, low fuel warning lamp, and retractable cup holder in I/P and cup holder in front console (both provided on the co-driver side).
The pictures of new Swift DZire shown below give an insight into the exterior tweaks made to the car. Most of the changes have been made on the front, on the nose of the compact sedan, which features a tweaked grille. A thick V-shaped chrome strip adorns the honeycomb base of the radiator grille flanked by slightly-tweaked halogen head lights with integrated black inserts. Body-coloured bumpers get larger air dams and reworked fog lights with an L-shaped chrome bezel ornament. High-end trims are offered with redesigned motion-themed alloy wheels while the entry level variants get restyled wheel covers. Body-coloured outside rear view mirrors can be adjusted internally and folded electrically. The car also features integrated side turn indicators. Rear remains largely the same except for an additional rear parking sensor. Maruti Suzuki India has also added four new exterior shades to the re-touched version of DZire range, which include cave black, sangria red, alp blue and magma grey.
Mechanical tweaks have been made to both petrol and diesel engines. The 1.2-litre, four-cylinder VVT petrol engine has been refined to pump out marginally less power output as compared to the previous one. The power output of the diesel variant, on the other hand, remains unchanged at 75 PS; however, ECU has been reworked and friction has also been reduced in pursuit of enhanced mileage. The tweaked petrol motor generates 84.3 PS at 6000 RPM along with the top torque of 115 Nm at 4000 RPM. The diesel motor continues to develop a peak power and torque of 75 PS at 4000 RPM and 190 Nm at 2000 RPM. Maruti Swift DZire transmission options comprise a conventional five-speed manual gearbox mated to petrol and diesel engines, and a four-speed automatic tranny is offered only on the petrol variant.
Mechanical tweaks made to the power trains result in increased fuel efficiency. The petrol MT variants are now capable of delivering ARAI-certified fuel economy of 20.85 kmpl, which is slightly more than the previous 19.1 kmpl. Petrol automatic version can run up to 18.5 kms in a litre. Diesel trims, on the other hand, are vouched to return 26.59 kmpl against the previous 23. 4 kmpl. This in turn brings DZire along the lines of one of the most frugal cars in India or rather makes it the most fuel efficient diesel car India has. When compared to one of its arch rivals, Honda Amaze, Maruti Suzuki DZire is a more efficient option. When it comes to fuel economy, the diesel variant of the latter is claimed to deliver 25.5 kmpl, which is tad less than the new DZire’s diesel-powered version.
On the performance front, the compact sedan does considerably well, all thanks to the improved engines that are now more capable and offer better performance. Handling and ride quality are substantially good. It has been DZire’s forte and it continues to be one of its positives.
Ventilated disc brakes on the front and drum brakes on the rear work in symbiosis. Significant braking features, like anti-lock-braking system and electronic brakeforce distribution, are proffered only on the high-end manual and single automatic version, along with the VXi from the petrol range. Driver and passenger airbags are exquisite to the high-end petrol and diesel variants. Engine immobilizer reverse parking sensor, speed-sensitive automatic door lock, security alarm system, rear door child locks, rear three-point seat belts, centre two-point seat belts and front ELR seat belts with shoulder height adjuster sum up the security and safety equipment fitted in the new DZire.
